Various character concepts I made for the Trine 5. As the game is a fundamentally a puzzle game, the design process was balancing between the gameplay requirements and the visual look. These varied from the general gameplay and story themes even to specific collision shape the character had to fit into in certain phases of the combat.
The process started from an in depth discussion with the art director and the writer, but also the designer who was responsible for the fight in game. I worked with them closely to end up with a design that succeeded in bringing together the story and gameplay requirements.
As well as making both 2d and 3d concepts for the characters, I made a lowpoly version so that the models could be tested ingame, before the final assets were made. This reduced the need for expensive changes further in the prooduction.
